Interesting in looking at box scores this week at the MLB level, a lot of guys who have been up almost all year are back down in AAA this week (Bacon, Hanahan, etc.)  Wonder if MLB is trying to get a look at some other AAA umpires this week.

will speculate on this one-- maybe all the vacations might be done and the regulars would be back for the home stretch so to speak or in replay, and graduations, etc and summer vacation for their personal week would be over. and make sure those in consideration for playoffs are working. good time to bring up some that are being up for the first time to get some games, especially if they are moving some rovers around for teams that are still in the hunt or positioning for playoffs, and let some of the young ones get less pressure games with teams out of the hunt. same things as amateur player assignors would probably do.

and an old article mentioning former age restrictions on officials.

cuzzi's last ejection had a comment in ccs about a 70 year old umpire making an ejection.

not that there could not be others out there but Cuzzi seems to be the first MLBU (August 29, 1955), to work an on the field regular season game at 70 (will there be a year end special event or not--even if no WS, maybe an LCS, DCS, or Wild Card, and the two nfl guys mentioned in the below article and former NBA Dick Bavetta, and Jack Nies. some guys did not get a long career since they went up so late. and of course the Ben Dreith case (another guy taking it in the shorts after filing the lawsuit which help others out but not Ben).  things started changing just not for the one who sues. hmmm isn't that just like Curt Flood. others after him received the advantages but not Curt. oh well, time marches on.
