"Fielder's" balk in the wild. Except it wasn't.

In Chicago for RBI regionals. Playing NFHS rules.

Umpire called balk because first baseman had one foot in foul territory. Maybe he got excited that he could finally call it.

But FED needs BOTH feet foul for a balk here.

FED also needs a TOP. Both feet can be in foul territory for a pickoff. Most of us would not even be looking at F3 at TOP. Most likely he would be legal at that point as he would be moving into fielding position. What you had was an OOO. Why no protest or a partner who corrected the rule misapplication?

I bet the partner didn't know. I suspect I was the only person there who actually knew the rule but as a parent watching the game, I won't inject myself.

Ah, yes "Overly Officious Official".

 

Another game we had one parent barking at the umpire "catcher's interference [obs] isn't a dead ball!" which is true, and it was frustrating as hell because it erased a run for us, but it couldn't be undone anyway.
