Did a game the other day where I was U1. Coach comes to me before the plate meeting and tells me that he is going to be on my butt today because his team has not been playing very well. He said that maybe if he got tossed it would fire them up.He chirped a little through out the game, but nothing to bad. BTW his team won 12-1 over the district leading team.

Have any of you ever had a situation like this?

but a summer league coach, former pro/D-1 NCAA player, once told me during a game that "if you throw me out of this game it would be the best call you've made all day!" So I obliged him. He essentially asked me to toss his sorry butt so he did not have to watch his sorry team lose any longer.

I saw him the other night at a HS varsity DH where his team had played the first game and he was watching/scouting the second game. I stopped by after my DH on the way home when I saw the lights still on. As we were watching my friend, Frank, toss the visiting coach (who was winning in bottom of the 7th and was arguing balls and strikes for no apparent reason) and we both remembered and discussed that ejection. He said it was his first as a coach and it was my first as an umpire. Fun to laugh about it now. We used to coach against each other in summer ball, 13, 14, 15 yo, right after he hung up his player cleats and started a baseball school with a travel ball team. He still does the baseball school/summer teams and is now in his first year as a HS varsity head coach at my Alma Mater. Small, small world this baseball thing in Central KY.

See I would keep him. If I have to watch his horrible team so does he.

I EJed a coach in a U-trip tourney, and as he turned to leave, he said, "Good! 'Cause I don't want to watch this crappy game."

I wanted to (but didn't) say, "Yeah, I feel your pain, but I can't eject myself."

I might have reconsidered the ejection and told him to stay since that would be a worse punishment apparently.

Especially if it was a quiet EJ. The "coach, get out of here" variety with little or no physical movement on your part.

You could change that to mean "your restricted to your dugout and dont want you to come on the field again or you forfiet".

Not that you actually will but just to see what happens. That way you can keep him around.:banghead:

Hmmmmm..maybe we could get Oh-dumb-ya to take over baseball when he gets through with car companies and executive pay and get the rules revised so that we CAN eject ourselves in sitches such as this...:BD:
