Hello everyone. I am a new umpire and also new to the forum. This will be my first year doing baseball and I am looking forward to it. I also officiate basketball (please don't hold it against me).

Great to have you here! Welcome to umpiring and Umpire-Empire.

The biggest adjustment for somebody coming from basketball to baseball is timing. In basketball you have to call your foul instantly, in baseball we have the pause, read, react mantra.

Your basketball skills will be very useful though. Many of the same principals of game management and officiating apply. We have quite a few guys here who do both (and more) so you should be able to make the adjustment.
