Little League Pitcher/Catcher

I'm "managing" (note the quotations, I'm a chicken with it's head cut off right now) a LL Juniors District Tournament and was curious if I could do this with my pitching and catching situation tomorrow...

 

The kid in question is a pitcher and a catcher, and I know they have specific rules. This is what I would LIKE to do, is it legal?

 

1st inning: Catcher

2nd inning: Catcher

3rd inning: Outfield/Emergency Pitcher

4th inning: Outfield/Emergency Pitcher

5th inning: Catcher

6th inning: Catcher

7th inning: Catcher

 

I am giving my ace the ball tomorrow with a cap of 4 innings or 50 pitches. If he reaches 50 pitches, I'd like to take this kid described above, we'll call him Branden, from the outfield and pitch him to the end of the 4th. This would obviously be fine at that point, as he had only caught two innings.

 

Would he become ineligible to be catcher after the 5th inning however? Or is this a legal move?

If he pitches more than 40, he's not eligible to catch.

If you pitch 41 or more you can't catch. If you catch 4 or more innings (1 pitch behind home plate in an inning=whole inning caught) you can't pitch.

I understand the rule, 4 innings or 41.

My question is if it can go backwards.

He would be used as a mop up pitcher, 20 pitches max.

But would he be allowed to catch five innings in the game if he pitched before the four inning threshold was reached?

Not sure what your asking. As long as no one catches after throwing 41+ or pitches after catching 4+ innings everything is legal. You can catch three and then throw another 85. You can pitch 40 and then catch an infinite number of extra innings. But once you hit the threshold on either catching or pitching you can't do the other.

Keep in mind that the purpose of this rule is not competition, but protecting the kid's arm.  In addition to following the rule, you have a responsibility to the kid to make sure that what he is doing is not too much for him and his arm. That becomes an individual determination based on the kid.
