HS Fastpitch JV, I am on bases.  Game as a few oddities, but such is JV softball.

In the fourth, partner (who looks about 13 and is in his first year) starts to get a little erratic with the zone, but not too bad.  I have a play at third that ends the inning, obvious out.  I wait a second to see if coach is going to argue, she isn't, so I go to short right.  She comes out about 30 seconds later, tells me "Your call was right, she was out, but I know you know your partner is young and inexperienced, you need to have a conversation with him later about consistency"  I tell the coach we are not going there, turn away, she leaves.

Well, that team's wheels come off when they are on defense. Partner is still a little erratic, but not terrible, but other team is now hitting the ball.  There are arguments about a play at the plate, there was no tag made, partner comes to me, I am thinking why? (I had responsibilities for a potential play at third so while I see no tag, I am not watching it close enough to give him anything).  After this a fan standing behind the plate says some personal stuff to partner, he tosses the fan.  Next play batter is up in the box and hits the ball.  The team who is arguing what seems everything is now going crazy.  They want a call of out of the box.  Coach is pointing, partner is pointing, I move in closer for rodeo clown duty.  He doesn't toss the coach.  Fans are still going crazy, and he tosses another one out of the main bleacher (no clue which one).

Thankfully, after this there is nothing further, I tell partner drop balls and follow me after the game, take him to my car, drive him to his car, we go to the other side of the school to change and postgame.  At least he is willing to learn.  We call assigner and then leave the site.

I'd rather have this guy than a stubborn 30 year vet who refuses to hear ways of improvement all day long.

I don't like that out of all of this, two fans were ejected though. I'm sure you told him this in postgame?

Yeah, told him it was bad.  He understands.  He is used to calling Dixie where the umpire is the only authority there.

Sounds like you did fine then, and if he learned, that's making the absolute best out of a s*** storm situation... Maybe you can even take him under your wing and train him up?
