High school varsity game.  Ball four to batter/runner gets away from the catcher to the backstop.  BR sprints to 1st base and makes a big turn.  He then makes the unwise decision to try for 2nd.  Catcher throws a laser to the shortstop who is waiting at 2nd base to make the tag.  BR slides into 2nd, right foot waist high and spikes the shortstop on the forearm.  I call "out", and then eject the BR for MC.  Head coach is running from 3rd base coaches box toward me.  I'm thinking he wants to argue about the MC.  Nope.  He is coming to get his BR.  As he runs by me he says, "He had to go."  After the game coach tells me he doesn't know what the kid was thinking.  That he had never done anything like that before, and that he is one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet.  I don't know if his coach made him or not, but after the game the kid went over and apologized to the opposing coach and the shortstop.

Don't we all wish there were more coaches that behaved in this manner?
