Missed Tag; Dropped Ball; Good Call.. The only thing I am not sure of is out of baseline. I don't think so in my judgement but, I could be wrong.

I think he went out of the baseline. Before the tag attempt, he was in fair territory. Then he moved to the other side of the running lane to avoid the tag. That's definitely more than 3 feet.

I think I would have called out of the baseline if there was a continued tag attempt. On the tag attempt he started about a foot in fair territory and ended up about a foot in foul territory (so legal at only two feet). By the time he was three or four or maybe five feet out of his original baseline, the fielder had abandoned his attempt to tag and was trying to transfer the ball to throw him out.

I think this play was called correctly.

I say good call. The runner actually went aroud the fielder before the tag attempt because the fielder was so sure of the out that he took his eyes off of him to glance at the R1.

To me, at the time of the ACTUAL tag attempt, he did not go beyond 3 feet. The tag attempt did not start when the runner was in front of him. It started when the runner was almost beside him. Correct call to me.

Good no-call. He is not out of his basepath.

Announcer: "He can go three steps out of the baseline. He's technically out of the baseline to start". :smachhead:

No tag! After attempting to "apply" the tag, Cairo/1B(F3), failed to complete Rule 2, definition of a tag. While in the process of transferring Cairo lost control of the ball. Cairo never had full control and did not actually transfer the ball, per Rule 2, from glove to throwing hand(free hand). Based on my observation of the video I do not observe the batter-runner exceeding 3 ft to his right. Batter-runner stays on first base.

Isn't this stuff fun!

I would have an out here.

If you take a narrow interpretation of a tag attempt, don't you end up with this?

I mean, doesn't it seem like trouble when we judge the tag attempt hasn't started (or is over) because the runner is out of reach?
