I am on the Bases

Bases Loaded, No outs.

Batter kines one right at F1.

F1 gets his glove up between the ball and his face.

Ball impacts and deflects off F1s glove and towards F6.

After the impact F1 is layed out on the ground.

F6 thows to F2 for the out at the plate and F2 throws to F1 getting the BR.

We then immediately call Time and everyone heads to F1 to check on him.

He gets up and spits out a little blood.

He then asks, "How many outs did we get".

Now thats keeping your head in the game.

He was given some water, he washed out his mouth, took a few warm up pitches and stayed on the mound.

The next batter hit as routine fly ball for the third out.

If he had not gotten his glove up we no doubt would have been calling 911 and waiting for the Ambulance and Paramedics to take him to the hospital.

The week prior we had a F4 take a bad hop in the face which broke his nose.

Heard yesterday they told him not to play for 6 weeks.

He is also a High School Senior who just started back into school and plays HS Baseball.

Bet his coach is pissed he can't practice or play Fall Ball during that period.

He is also a pretty good pitcher.

It's always intimidating seeing someone get hit with the ball in a sensitive place (either head really). Iwas doing a mens league game alst season when R2 broke for 3rd on the pitch to steal. Catcher came up and madea cannon shot straight up the line. F5 in his anticipation of the throw started to move his glove downwards for the tag just before the ball hit his glove and the ball ended up smashing him right between the eyes on the right side of the bridge of his nose. Lots of blood flowing and a very obviously broken nose. Off to the ER with him. He managed to get back before the end of the game (less than 2 hours in an ER in Ontario here is something amazing in it's own right) with a broken nose, serveral stiches and a pretty severe concussion that kept him out the rest of the season (aprox a month and a half)

I have one of our umpires that is currently working in CPL, understand he is moving up though, that in his last year playing men's league before going to JEA caught a hopper in the mouth at third. Knocked his front teeth out and spilled mucho blood. I told him there was a reason he always played second.
