I have a few questions about Dixie rules. How many innings do they play in 10u, 12u, and 13u? Our president says they all play 5. And I can't find it anywhere in the book. Though I recall reading a tourney rule book and it says 6 or 7 for older age groups. Also, when do they start doing infield fly rule? I asked at the beginning of the year when I had 10u, they said no. The only thing I can find in the book is the definition of the rule.

All of the Texas dixie I've ever called has 6 (7 at older ages). I dont know why a local league would shorten it, most set a time limit. IFF starts at 10U. Thats part of my partners plate meeting. "do we all understand the in field fly rule?" (I guess Im not nice enough to ask). Most of their eyes get glassy and they just nod. Unless they give you a written local league amendment or something then just call whats in the rule book. Its better then not calling an IFF and having a coach call you on it. If you call it, they just have to protest or not. And in most cases the rule book supersedes any local rule changes in those situations. So chances are they cant protest anyway. I would find out.

I didn't even question it when they said no. It made sense to me because it was tight/closed bases. But I will ask as soon as I can. We have time limits. The reason I asked is because we have some tourneys coming up, and I don't want to start a sh!tstorm. What about U3K in 10u? I've had a few and the batter never runs. I asked and they said they don't do it. I assume its like LL where minors don't do it but majors do (yes, I know what happens when you assume something). Thanks for the feedback.

UK3 doesnt start until the bases open. There may well be a local rule that negates the IFF. but I dont think its likely. I would ask the league to give me some kind of formal notification. Not just a he said she said situation. Weather its written or not I like it to be formal. the president, or even an assigner to say "yes or no, we do or do not use the IFF rule" Just so I have that to fall back on in a game. No prblem! I am not an expert by any means, but I will always try to help!

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sounds like you have not been given *Dixie* rulebooks. If not, here are the online rulebooks.

Dixie Youth Baseball

http://youth.dixie.org/Main_Navigation/Rules/rules_and_regulations.htm

From the Dixie Youth Baseball rulebook:

In Dixie Youth Baseball the official divisions are Minors/AAA (10U), and Majors or Ozone (both are 12U, but Majors has 60' basepaths, Ozone has 70' basepaths)

There are still younger divisions, but it sounds like you don't deal with those.

Games are 6 innings in AAA, Majors, and Ozone. 4.10(a)(1)

IFF applies in AAA, Majors, and Ozone. 2.00 (No exception stated for AAA or Majors)

No D3K in Minors or Majors 6.05©(1); D3K does apply in Ozone 6.05©(2).

Now, your league may have some local rules...good luck with that.

In addition, older ages fall under Dixie Boys and Dixie Majors --- with different rules.

http://baseball.dixie.org/Assets/dixie+boys+baseball/pdf/2012-13+Official+Rules.pdf?method=1

7 innings is the recommended number of innings per game. 4.10(a)
