In southwest Virginia where I currently work, we have lost two umpires in two months, one to a heart attack, and another just was killed in a traffic crash (a reminder to us all to wear our seat belts, all those killed in the crash including him were unbelted, but taking off my traffic safety engineer hat and putting back on my umpire hat). Just a sad situation. RIP Casey and RIP Randy.

We also lost 2 long term valued veterans last year..............one to a long fought public battle with cancer....fought it, took the chemo, went into remission, then it came back and claimed him......the other worked games all the time, never told us anything.......worked up til the end of may, said he was going to las vegas to spend a month with his son, and he'd see us when he got back..............he died at his sons home peacefully of cancer....

RIP Lonnie and RIP Dick
