http://www.news10.net/news/article/187916/2/Ump-Umpires-need-to-control-games-to-avoid-brawl

This article is from a local news station from where I live. It was about a baseball game that ended in a brawl. Of course the blame the umpire. How can you blame this on the umpire? This makes me sick. The so called "veteren umpire" they interviewed in the piece is not even from the association that this particle umpire is from. I just don't know how they could make this our fault. :bang:

It seems they were just saying there should be more umpires out there not that he did anything wrong. I don't think any extra umpires would have helped but that's all they said.

They said more than that. Said the officials need to see things coming. Like an umpire can see a pitcher throwing a ball at a basecoach. It's BS. They are also complaining about the supensions. What a joke. No wonder it happened in the first place.

Just posted this to the FB page for the story:

According to NFHS rules (and that includes whichever section of CIF Yuba City belongs to) any player that leaves his position, be that on the field or on the bench, is ejected from the game and subject to suspension. Be thankful that the whole team was not disbanded. Del Campo I am sure will face the same sanctions. The boys need to take responsibility for their actions and the first base coach for Del Campo (if he did say what was reported in the video) needs to be indefinitely removed from all HS sports for the rest of his life.

It's hard for me to imagine a JV base coach talking about F1's mother and a JV umpire not stopping it and then F1 throwing at 1bc. If that is truly what happened, then a lot of people screwed up.

Here is my comment on the article:

What the heck does the officiating have to do with a problem between a coach and a player. The only thing he could have done was call time and dump thje coach. The problem is we don't know if the coach said something, the kid explodes, or the coach says something, then something else and then the kid explodes. It may have been too fast to react. The umpire had no part in this story, as a matter of fact, unless he has time to get between them he isn't going to break up the fight anyway. The fact it was only one man was sited as a partial part of the fight. They felt that two officials could have contained it. They need to talk to their school about that, they made that call. You can't complain about only one umpire if you are only willing to pay for one.

They said in the article that the pitcher was being recruited for college. He may be hopefully college bound but he can't be recruited as a JV player.
