Swarm of bees delays Giants-Diamondbacks game

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Diamondbacks' field crew used a combination of cotton candy and lemonade to help disperse a swarm of bees that delayed the San Francisco Giants split squad's 11-1 win over Arizona for 41 minutes in the second inning Sunday.

We had this happen at a UCLA Bruins game last year. The umpires were ready to get back into their street clothes and call the game off. Then the head coach found the number of a beekeeper in a friggin' directory, called him up, and he came out there with that white suit and headgear and herded them into this cardboard box by finding the queen and getting her to attract the rest of the swarm. He just patiently scooped this wad of bees into the box and taped it shut.

It was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever witnessed. A cardboard box with duct taped seams and a crudely crafted port opening on its lid. Then, when he was finished, the guy strolled out of the ballpark to scattered cheers, holding this taped up cardboard box. It was one of the most absurd things I have ever seen at a ballgame.
