Another machine pitch little league situation with kids that just moved up from T-ball.

A batter hits the ball to the fence and is rounding third when his twin brother who is the next batter up comes out of the dugout and comes to the right of the plate and sets up to hit.

There was no throw and the runner scored, but if there had been a throw and the batter, who should have still been on the bench, interfered with it or confused the catcher, what would the call have been?

Batter's interference and runner back to third?

Oh, and it would be interference. I just remember it this way: "Obstruction is an o.d.d call." It helps me remember that obstruction occurs on the defense.

:hi5:dirtydawg got it right. :angel4::violin: It is offensive interference and if the play was being made on the runner coming home he would be out. OBR rule 7.11 should cover that situation. Same rule in Babe Ruth/ Cal Ripken and also in Dixie Youth Baseball. ( Requires any member of the offensive team to vacate any space needed by a fielder who is attempting to field a batted or thrown ball. )

Thank you for volunteering! Maybe you will like it enough to become a regular Umpire!

The advice I have for you is to pick up a copy of the rules book an read through it a few times. Keep coming back an keep asking questions.

It does not matter if it is pitching machine or HS varsity. People will look at you to make a ruling. And they expect the correct ruling.

Like I said keep asking questions. It makes us think about things that maybe we haven't seen.

Keep up the good work!
