In this play, interference is called, but they successfully turn the DP, so in this case, is it right to ignore the Interference which would allow the run to score, or since interference is called, no matter what happens afterward, no runner may advance?

98% of the times when there is interference by the offensive team, the ball is dead immediately. The out(s) is / are immediately recorded and runners return to their last occupied base. This is one of those scenarios.

The only exception to this rule is when there is batter interference on a catcher's throw. As you know, the same rule of thumb applies to an umpire's interference situation. This is the situation where you do the "wait and see"

Solid call. Ignore the colour commentator.

An instance where a run could score is if there is INT with an intervening play.

Such as bases loaded,0 outs. Grounder ball hit to F6 who tries to get R3 on the force at HP. Throw is late and R3 is safe. F2 gets the ball and attempts to get BR at 1B. BR is outside of the running lane and a quality throw hits him in the back. Ball is dead immediately. R2 had advanced at the TOI but R1 did not get to 2B. In this case, R3 scores, R2 is on 3B and R1 is returned to 1B. Now, R1, R3, 1 out.

This is a case where the INT is not ignored but runners may advance.

Only PU INT on F2 or BI or CI can be ignored depending on the results. But, all other INT is dead immediately and penalties assessed.

Excellent answer and worthy of a spot on my cheat cards.

Please let me know what needs to change:

INTERFERENCE:

  • Ball is dead.
    • Runner is out.
    • Other Runners return to TOP or TOI
      • OBR: Runners return to TOP - IF Intervening play, then TOI
      • NCAA: Runners return to TOP - IF Intervening play, then TOI
      • FED: Runners return to TOI - Always
      • EXCEPT
  • PU INT on F2
    • Call TIME at the conclusion of the
first play if the first play fails to retire a runner.Ignore if first play retires a runner.

[*]BI

  • Call TIME at the conclusion of the first play if the first play fails to retire a runner.
    • Ignore if first play retires a runner.
CICall the Batter out
  • Call TIME at the conclusion of continuous action.
    • Enforce the CI if any Runner fails to acquire advance base.
    • In Amateur leagues - advise the HTM of his option to ignore CI
    • Enforce HTM choice

That makes sense. Thank you.

The only thing I would change is the PU INT and BI. It isn't just the first play. It has to be on an advancing runner. If the runner retreats or stops trying to advance, then the play is over and penalties are assessed. IE. gets in a rundown to get another runner to a base.

Right-o

How would you phrase this concisely?

possibly - "Call TIME at the conclusion of the first play on the advancing runner if F2 fails to retire him."

possibly - "Call TIME at the conclusion of the first play on the advancing runner if F2 fails to retire him."

Call TIME at the conclusion of the first play if F2 fails to retire the runner while attempting to advance.

Call TIME at the conclusion of the first play if F2 fails to retire the runner while attempting to advance.

Or, If F2's initial throw does not retire a runner, the ball is immediately dead.

CI - If all runners, including the BR fail to advance one base, enforce the CI.

Any runner attempting to steal during CI is awarded the base he is attempting to advance to.

If R3 is attempting to score on CI, R3 scores, batter is awarded 1st and a balk is credited to the pitcher (other runners advance one base)

PU INT- If the intial throw by F2 does not retire a runner, all runners return.

There are other instances such as willful and deliberate int, spectator int, int by authorized personel on playing field. I don't know how concise or elaborate you want your cheat sheet to be.
