Game changer

Not sure if this is just my experience or it it's common.I have loved baseball all my life and when it was time to teach my son the game I jumped at the chance I've been coaching him for the last 7 years he's 13 now and a good ball player , better than I was at his age and I always made sure I was educated in the rules. I decided I wanted to start umpiring 2 years ago so I did and now I do both. It has changed the way I view the game completely. By the way I have never been the type of coach to argue and have never been ej. Now even during my games I find myself critiquing the umpires especially if they are out of position or don't know the rules I think it has actually made me a better coach. Have others out there had this same experience or is it just me even just being a spectator i still find my paying close attention to the umpires.

I have been on both sides and I believe my knowledge of the rules helped me a lot. I am definitely an umpire watcher. I do the same thing at concerts/theatre productions. That is what I do for a living and I always watch the tech when watching a show. So in either venue I am either watching for rotations or missed bases or followspot cues or how something is rigged. Drives my wife nuts.
