The biggest difference to me is the comfort and fit of the WV Gold. It seems to be slightly thicker padding. The original WV has velcro between the pad and the plates that allow you to move it some and wash it. The original hangs like a shingle or washboard on the front. The Gold has some breaks and fits my form better. I only know of one guy who wears the bicep pads on the original WV. I took mine off when I had the original. My son wears it now. I think the Gold comes in three sizes and the original is a "one size fits all" type of item.

I had the original and eventually got to the Gold (after 2 K-1's/a Platinum/an ix3 and 2 +POS models) and plan to stay with the gold for a while. The hunt for the perfect CP is over for me.

I just got a Gold after several years wearing the classic WV (So classic it has the white WV on it instead of the yellow W.)

The thing I immediately noticed was the difference in weight. The Gold is notably lighter than the original, and fits as Dave noted a bit nicer. I can't wait to get mine broken in; it's still a touch stiff from being new.

I found a classic WV made by douglas in mint condition for $80. I'm thinking of using it for my plate coat.

Thank you for saving us all as much money as you have, Dave.
