  1. Thank you very much. In HS the sliding runner can make contact as long as the contact is before the base or ontop of the base and the rest of the slide is legal. Out here we have made several requests for the NFHS to clarify your second question but the only case they have deals with a runner who is less than halfway to second or something like that. I would of gotten the outs in your second play but other respected umpires wouldnt so thats why we asked and with no answer I guess the play will be called differently.
  2. Ok, I am very confused by the rule now. In high school, can the sliding runner make contact with the fielder when attempting to make a throw? Also, if after the shortstop steps on second, the runner going to second has to get out of the way correct? If the runner just keeps running and the ball hits the runner, isn't it a dead ball and the batter is out?
  3. Speaking of balks, does anyone know why the ump in the Royals vs White Sox game called a balk to end the game last night?
  4. Thank you very much.
  5. Thank you very much.
  6. Also, I had a kid throw a bat at a ball outside this year on a hit and run. He missed the ball, but what is the ruling if he would have hit the ball with the thrown bat?
  7. The detached equipment rules only apply to deliberately touching the ball with detatched equipment. If a mask, bat etc happens to get hit with a throw play the bounce. ok thanks. What is the ruling though if a player deliberately touches the equipment?
  8. These situations were covered in the questions and answers above I meant to ask about the rules when the pitcher is on the grass. I didn't see anything on that in previous posts. Sorry, I should have specified.
  9. I always have trouble interpretting the rule for detached player equipment in the rule books. If a throw comes in and hits either the catchers mask, bat or donut by the dugout, what is the rule? I've always struggled with this rule. Thanks.
  10. What is the rule if a pitcher goes to the mouth off of the mound and doesn't wipe it off with 1. Nobody on or 2. Runners on base? Thanks in advance.
