  1. Guys ... I just stumbled on this post and want to chime in to clarify. I was the one who designed and build UmpireBible.com, owned and maintained it for almost ten years, and then sold it just over two years ago. The purchasers had bit plans for the site (so they told me), but not a thing has changed since then. My last act was to update the rules to the '24 book, but then signed off. It doesn't appear that anyone is babysitting the site, let alone making the effort to keep the rules updated. That's a shame, but I have no control, obviously, nor influence. I still believe it's one of the best online umpire training resources out there. It's unfortunate, though, that they've evidently gone full ghost on the site, and that consequently the rules are falling ever so slightly out of sync. BTW, I've retired from umpiring (and everything else, for that matter :)) and I've dropped my membership here at the Empire, so I hope this message comes through. Nick G. (nickg@live.com)
  2. I'm hoping you're the correct contact for my issue. Every time I log onto Umpire-Empire, my password fails. Every time I request new password, enter the exact same password as previous. It works once I create it, and then the next time I log on, it fails again. Rinse, repeat.

In fact, I logged on twice tonight, and both times I was forced to reset my password. Is this a know issue? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Sorry to butt in, but instead of using your email address to sign in, use your screen name. It says you can use your email, but it doesn't work. I had the same problem.

    Runner Interference

Okay, I should have checked my NCAA book before weighing in. You're quite right: NCAA 8-4-a, b, c. Some days we teach, some days we learn.

    Runner Interference

But the OP states that he made contact with the fielder. That's definitely "some other action" that may (or may not) have hindered the fielder. Not to belabor this, but I simply disagree with the certainty that no interference took place. It certainly could have given the OP.

    Runner Interference

Not hiding. The OP says there was contact with the fielder. That could be interference; in fact, a fair chance that it was. You can certainly have interference with a legal slide. Entirely a judgement call.

    Runner Interference

The fact that the slide was legal doesn't necessarily mean that the call was incorrect. If the runner made contact with the fielder attempting to throw to 1B, you can still judge interference. Had to be there, of course, but I would not say with certainty that the call was incorrect.
  7. My only question is, where in the OP does it say R1 missed second base? She overran it. That keeps the OP simple. I believe she is safe.
  8. This is not an appeal play. R1 successfully beat the force, but when she overran 2B she was liable to be put out on the tag. Because a tag was not applied, the runner should NOT have been called out. Umpire error. NickG
  9. Actually, it's not technically true that only the pitcher can balk. Ever heard of the "catcher's balk"? See Rule 7.07 (OBR 2014; that's 6.01(g) in the 2015 book). Or you can read about it HERE.
  10. I'm an umpire in the Pacific Northwest and look forward to both learning and contributing. I devote a lot of time to umpire education and training and invite you to visit my site and blog: UmpireBible.com UmpireBible: The Blog Thanks, NickG
