HP Umpire Willie Traynor ejected Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo (step balk call on Jose Cabrera; QOCY) in the bottom of the 5th inning of the #Diamondbacks-#Padres game. With one out and two on, with Xander Bogaerts at bat, Diamondbacks pitcher Cabrera was called for a balk, advancing baserunner Fernando Tatis to 3B and Jackson Merrill to 2B. Replays indicate Cabrera failed to step toward second base before throwing to the base, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Padres were leading, 2-1. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 10-4.

This is Willie Traynor (45)'s 1st ejection of 2026.

*Official Baseball Rule 6.02(a)(3): "If there is a runner or runners it is a balk when the pitcher, while touching their plate, fails to step directly toward a base before throwing to that base."
