HP Umpire Jerry Layne ejected Royals manager Matt Quartraro (strike three call; QOCN) in the top of the 8th inning of the #Royals-#Twins game. With two out and two on (R1, R2), Royals batter Michael Massey took a 3-2 fastball from Twins pitcher Caleb Thielbar for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the heart of home plate and below the hollow of the knee (px -0.12, pz 1.38 [sz_bot 1.74 / RAD 1.62 / MOE 1.54]), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Twins were leading, 8-6. The Twins ultimately won the contest, 8-6.

This is Jerry Layne (24)'s 1st ejection of 2023.
