Cleaning the Zigs

So this year I bought both a base and plate set of the Reebok Zig Zags.  Had two games this evening with rain and both my base and field shoes are covered in mud.  I have cleaned them nicely, but cannot get into the small hole openings of the shoe.  What do you all use to get into these small openings?  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Telescopic shower head, warm water and a brush. I heard scrubbing bubbles would break down the shoe's adhesive.
