Well here we are again in Wyoming waiting for the weather to warm up enough to get outside. With all of this time i have been re-reading some "documents' that i pulled off the web and one of those is "TOP 40 Baseball Rules Myths" (This is a true/false "quiz" and all 40 are supposedly false) One of the myths states: The batter is out if a bunted ball hits the ground and bounces back up and hits the bat while the batter is holding the bat' Does this not contradict 6.05h or is it a matter of semantics? The bat did not hit the ball; the ball hit the bat. thanks for the input.

I think the last sentence of 6.05 (h) covers it somewhat. I think it is a semantics issue in whatever you are looking at as the 2nd contact there is incidental, not intentional.

This is clarified in the 2010 OBR.

Clarified rules on a ball that deflects to hit a batter or a bat while the batter is in a legal position in the batter’s box and has not intended to interfere with the course of

the ball. (Rules 6.05(g) and 6.05(h))

6.05(g) A batter is out when— His fair ball touches him before touching a fielder. If the batter is in a legal position in the batter’s box, see Rule 6.03, and, in the umpire’s judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, a batted ball that strikes the batter or his bat shall be ruled a foul ball;

6.05(h) A batter is out when— After hitting or bunting a fair ball, his bat hits the ball a second time in fair territory. The ball is dead and no runners may advan ce. If the batter-runner drops his bat and the ball rolls against the bat in fair territory and, in the umpire’s judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, the ball is alive and in play. If the batter is in a legal position in the batter’s box, see Rule 6.03, and, in the umpire’s judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, a batted ball that strikes the batter or his bat shall be ruled a foul ball;
