A couple of years ago, I was working the Plate on a game that was part of a tournament the proceeds of which were meant for disabled and handicapped children.

About halfway through the game, two players on one side got into an argument about how a play was completed. The continued the argument all the way to the dugout, all but getting into a fist fight.

My partner on the First-Base side finally had to make the tough call, as their argument was having an effect on the game - everybody began watching the dugout, waiting for the punches to fly, instead of paying attention to the game. What's worse is that the team was managed by one of the tournament directors.

With little hesitation, my partner emphatically ejected both players for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. As the players left the field area, they apparently had not yet heard that they were ejected, but wanted to "take it outside" anyway.

Quietly, my partner explained to the manager (just to cover all scenarios) that neither player was to return to the field, or even to the stands for that matter. No argument was given as the manager replied that the only return he was wanting was the jerseys that the guys were wearing.

I had one of these this past summer in the HS league...

Doing the dish with absolutely no inclination or warning of any pending problem(s).

Bottom of the 3rd, 1 out, no runners...home team's dugout is on the 1st base side...

Suddenly, I hear a loud scuffle break out inside their area. I glance over and here is a free for all ( almost). I see at least 4 different punches thrown from various angles at God knows who...Two players on the floor of the dugout and at least 3-4 more are locked in mortal combat...:WTF

My partner and I both head for the dugout shouting to break it up while the coaches are full bore now to the festivities. several players are trying to seperate the brawlers...

When things get sorted out the "reason" for the melee is announced loudly by the largest of the players:

"He called me a c**ksuc** !", he wailed. "Well you are!" said one of the particpants and a few more punches get thrown, including one who strikes a totally innocent bystander who drops like a rock...The mommas in the adjoining MILF section who aren't LTAO now are stunned as several other parents slowly begin snickering.

The coaches get things under control and take it upon themselves to EJ their players. Except that no one follows or escorts them to the parking lot and several more punches are thrown which results in the coaches heading after them and a few parents now keeping things under control and seperated.

While the incident was regretable and the home coach apologized profusely to me, what was funny to me was the largest player in the fight, the one accused of "improper behaviors" could probably be an NFL linebacker for just about any teams while the rest of the squirts involved might could have been water boys for the same team. The instigator might have weighed 130-140 pounds standing in a running shower....Just as to why the rest decided that they needed to be throwing punches at each other remained a mystery...

Luckily the home team had been carrying about 20 or so players the entire season because 7 of them went to the house...
