So I am going to game whore to the extreme this weekend. I have 6 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday - all in an AAU tournament. But here's the thing - this will be the longest time between games for me in 3 years. My last game - a HS summer game - was on July 23rd, so it will have been 39 days since I last strapped on the gear. I know for folks in the colder climates, this is nothing, but throw me a bone.
What do you do to get in mid-season form starting on pitch #1 of game 1 after a long lay-off? My plan:
Already spoke with my Saturday partner, so that's done
Hydrate the night before
Make sure all my gear is clean and ready the night before and in my car
Review tournament rules the night before
Get my cooler ready the night before
Get a good breakfast
Rehearse my plate meeting
Arrive early, meet my partner early and do a thorough pregame
Get to the TD's desk early, and to the field a little early
Nail my plate meeting
Introduce myself to F2 and watch 6 pitches - 3 on each side
Remind myself, just prior to the 1st pitch, to see it all the way to the glove (and do this periodically throughout the game)
FOCUS! Don't suck!
What am I forgetting?
