  1. Yesterday I was watching the Red Sox - Dodgers game and noticed that David Ross, who has missed a good portion of this season (close to half of it) with pretty severe concussion issues, was catching in one of his first games back and wearing a Mizuno traditional mask. So what you say? Prior to this game he wore an All-Star HSM and after his initial concussion diagnosis this season he even had it fitted with special padding and wore a skull cap from Unequal before he went out on his longest and most recent DL stint. Lots of speculation here and other places that a bucket is safer than the traditional mask (and I agree it is for certain hits to the side and back of the head), but here is a guy who was treated by one of the best sports concussion guys out there and he reverts back to the traditional mask. I did notice that he had leather Mizuno pads in there, surprised he didn't have Team Wendys. TW's have really gained popularity with umpires, surprised that I have never seen a catcher wearing them. I guess sponsorships and matching your team's color scheme trump safety.
