Does anyone else feel like plate shoes need more traction?
I'm a new umpire with less than two years of experience. Last year, I umpired 89 games, 9u, through the men's league.
My plate shoes are fine on well-groomed or turf fields, but I lose traction a lot on less-than-optimal fields, especially in 1-man, for apparent reasons.
I want to hustle as hard as I can to get the best angle, but I find myself easing up so that I don't fall on my face.
We've one field locally behind the plate that resembles sand on top of concrete.
I have the Smitty plate shoes and the SSK plate shoes.
The SSKs are a bit better, like hiking boot tread, but not great.
Everything else I see offered doesn't have any tread more aggressive than I already have.
Thought's?
