Two catcher stories this week. Game #1: the first thing the catcher says to me is "I don't know why coach told me to do this, I haven't caught in 5 years." I didn't ever take a hit, but mostly that was because the pitcher was nowhere close to the strike zone. Lots of wild pitches, and it was a *long* way back to the backstop. Catcher was frustrated. Game #2 was my first (and probably only) softball game of the high school season. The catcher wasn't "good" like you want them to be, but was an absolute joy to work with - even when things weren't going well, she was smiling and joking around. Quite a difference from the normal high-stress umpiring I do.
