  1. Last week when working as base umpire in 13U championship game, I had a situation. I am in C position. Runners on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs. R1 takes off while pitcher is in stretch. Pitcher steps off and throws to second base. R3 takes off from 3rd attempting to score. F6 takes throw from pitcher and immediately turns and throws home. My partner is right behind home plate rather than off the one side or the other and appears to have a poor angle. Throw is in the dirt and bounces out of catcher's mitt as he is attempting tag. A big cloud of dust kicks up from the slide. My partner asks to see the ball, and the catcher quickly picks up the ball off the ground, puts it in his glove, and shows it to plate ump (partner). He calls R3 out. I clearly see what happens, run in, and explain to my partner what the catcher did. We start to talk about it and before we finish, manager of the defensive team comes out arguing. We still hadn't changed the call yet. Finally, after explaining that the home plate umpire was shielded by the catcher and from C position I could clearly see the ball out and on the ground, my partner proclaims the runner safe. Well, defensive manager goes ballistic, runs onto the field with 2 other coaches, and proceeds to argue the call. I tell him that I'll talk to him without his other coaches. Again, I explain the call. He leaves the field, but for the next 5 minutes continues to say, "Way to blow the call ump!" I finally eject him. Did I handle this properly? Should I have intervened to help my partner or was it his call to miss?
