I've been umpiring for over forty years, when I saw something yesterday, I'd never seen or even imagined. College BB LSU versus Tennessee. Pitching coach comes out for a visit & leaves, crossing the foul line. The head coach then comes out and is almost to the mound when the 2nd base umpire comes in with a clear wave-off..."you can't do this coach" signal. The coach turns on his heels and leaves the field without a word. Of course, the play-by-play guys were thoroughly confused as they usual they are, and frankly so was I. In researching, it, second visits are prohibited in the same inning with the same hitter. If the offense subs a pinch hitter, then the second visit is permitted and the pitcher removed. Am I getting this right, guys? Would love some feedback from my comrades.
