  1. Thank you for the reply... my partner and I did allow both runs to count, but after the game I thought about the ruling and was curious if we got it right.
  2. Playing NFHS rules: 2 runners on base, 2 outs, and batter hits homerun and misses 2nd base. Defense appeals to 2nd base and batter-runner called out. Do the 2 runners on base score? Thank you for all replies..

    Infield Fly

Thank you for the feedback. I got my wires crossed on the second play for the runner at first base. I thought the only option for the defense was to tag the runner who left first base early, but they can either tag or touch the base. In this case the defense did touch the bag therefore runner at first is out. Now I know when that same play comes up again. Thanks again for all the feedback.

    Infield Fly

Thank you for the replies and clarification... I incorrectly applied the force out since bases were loaded and the runner at 1st was not "forced" to advance. In this case the runner at 1st would have been out since he was off the base at the time of the catch and did not return before defense threw to first for the out. If not mistaken, then I have 2 outs on the play with the infield play, then the out at first. Sorry for any confusion on the " force-out" language.

    Infield Fly

Sorry my bad, F4 did catch the infield fly, then threw to first for a force out on runner.

    Infield Fly

Good morning, OBR rules: Infield fly situation, 1 out, bases loaded, batter hits fly ball to second baseman. I have infield fly. Runner on 1st is off the bag and defense throws to first for the force out. My question is this a force play at first, or does runner need to be tagged? He never tagged up and was off the base the entire time. Now if runners decided to advance at their own risk, then defense needs to apply a tag, correct? There is no force play if they try to advance.
  7. I am in the C slot, runner on 2B, and line drive off bat hits me then SS catches ball without it ever touching ground. I have immediate dead ball, umpire interference and batter-runner gets 1B and any runner(s) go back unless forced to advanced. Correct call or no? Just for clarification purposes, if I was positioned behind the infield, then this would be a live ball, correct? Does this rule change between NFHS or OBR?
  8. Good morning, Runners on 1B and 3B, pitcher comes set, runner from 1st breaks for 2B. Instead of stepping off rubber pitcher does the inside move and spins and throws to 2B for the out. Is this a balk? It was called a balk because they said 2B was unoccupied. I didn't think that mattered if the runner is clearly advancing, then the pitcher can make a play. I wasn't sure if the pitcher in this case can make the inside move, or does he need to disengage the rubber first.

    Balk?

Thanks everyone for the feedback... the first situation I got right , the second I was wrong, but now know for future reference.

    Balk?

New member and just joined this site. Got 2 separate questions that happened this year at the younger travel age level (12U-13U). Runner on 2B, pitcher comes set, runner takes off for 3B before pitcher begins any motion, pitcher steps towards 3B with non-pivot foot and throws out runner. Balk?? Coach said yes because he threw to an unoccupied base. My question is does the pitcher need to step off rubber or is this a legal move? My understanding the base does not need to be occupied, so the coach argument does't matter. Here's the other situation... pitcher comes set at different spots... first pitch he sets at his chin, next pitch he comes set at his waist, next pitch comes set back at his chin, and so on. His set position was never consistent and changed on each pitch. Balk? I thought once set position was established need to stay consistent and can't come set at different spots. Any clarification much appreciated.
