What exactly does "Intervening Play" mean? Game Situation: Runner third Base, no Out, Squeeze Play attempt. Batter bunting directly in front of the catcher, the catcher fields the ball and tagged the scoring Runner, Runner called save by the Plate-Umpire -> after them, the catcher throws to 1st-Base and hits the Batter-Runner in his back while he is running to 1st-Base in fair-territory outside the 3-feet-Line. How would you decide the situation? I would call the Batter Runner Out for Interference because he was outside the 3-feet-line, where the Batter-Runner is protected by this kind of ball hits, Run scores because of the fact that at the start of the pitch there was less then two Out (Official Baseball Rules (OBR) - Rule 6.01(a)) so the Runner scored. Also I would say the play at home was a intervening play but I am not sure what the term "intervening play" means or which situation it is describing. Is it describing the play at home while the Batter-Runner is in an force-play involved? I found some information in OBR, site 54, Rule 5.10(l) Comment (Rule 8.06 Comment): "...before there is an intervening play (a pitch or other play)" -> but it does not exactly describe what a "intervening play" exactly is or means, or does it? Also I found the same situation at in OBR site 62 but no explanation or definition about the term "intervening play", maybe you could tell me more about it, so I can understand it better Is an intervening play only at home possible or could it be also at other bases? I would suggest yes. Is an intervening play only when a Runner is "forced" or does it not matter? I am a umpire newbie and would be very glad if someone, with more experience, could tell me more about "intervening plays". Thanks a lot, best alex
