I seem to be having trouble with close calls at 1st base over my past 4 or 5 games. I dont know if I'm rushing the call or what, but safe always seems to be my first reaction and feel like i'm almost looking for a reason to call the runner safe. I'm comfortable with my angle, but just dont feel like I'm getting these calls right. Anyone else ever have this issue? Any pointers would be appreciated
Anyone have a used mask they are looking to sell? Looking for something light weight, preferrably Diamond ixr or All star i bar vision. But pretty much anything is an upgrade from what I have right now.
pm what you have
thanks
I picked up a (very) lightly used All Star System Seven CPU400 (the 15in version) and it seems a little too bulky for me, maybe its my body type but it just feels like I'm wearing football pads. Has anyone else had this same issue? maybe it just takes some getting used to. The protection feels second to none in my lousy opinion
What should I switch to that is good protection but a little lower profile? I like the price and idea of the Champion hardshell (p210) but dont have the option of trying one on. I do like the 15inch length of the all star
-If anyone is interested in purchasing the System Seven pm me with an offer and I can email pics. Its in fantastic shape.
Thanks for the encouragement! games went well (other than the 40 degree weather with light drizzle ALL day), quality of play was beyond what I expected and they were respectful kids. And luckily...I didnt suck! Only complaints I heard from the coaches were balk arguements.. But i typically dont call balks unless its robbery.
Have my first assignment in 7 years tomorrow.....and I'm actually a bit nervous but still excited to get back in the mix. its only 9U tourney games but i'm very rusty. Any advice other than, "dont suck"?
I was in same exact position as you last week, and researched it extensively. Best deal on the web for a hard shell Champion (which i found to have the best reviews for a budget chest protector) is by this ebay seller:

Then why not say so. To me all games are competitive. Both teams are competing to see who can win.
Sorry just don't like when people say that.
I'm just a grumpy old man.
By the way I'm working a competitive t-ball game this weekend.
Ouch....didnt realize things were so serious on these forums. Travel ball isnt the common term around here. They use rec ball and competitive.
Hello, I'm a new (again) umpire. Called ball back in college but just lower level little league stuff, i"m getting back into it this season and plan on taking it a little more seriously. I'm in the market for a new CP but wondering if I should go with a 15" or 17" cp? im between 6ft and 6'1. Is the only difference the length or do the 17' have broader shoulders?
any input is appreciated
thank you

lol thanks everyone, didnt mean to open up a can of worms. I think I'll order the ChampION hard shell CP and upgrade at a later date if needed. I've never worked the leagues I'm starting in or with the assigers so I want to make sure it will work out before investing too much.
gotcha, thanks for the info! can you recommend a specific higher end model? I dont mind spending a little more now, just want something comfortable and thats going to last, but would like to stay under $100
I've also seen the Champion hard shell cps for around $45?
Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm getting back into calling baseball this year, umpired little league for 2 years after high school while in college but recently got the itch again. I'll be calling everything from coach pitch-14/u competitive and possibly some high school summer ball occaisionally
I'm trying to update my gear and came across this CP, any info/feedback on it would be greatly appreciated. It seemed like a nice value but not sure how it would hold up againts the older guys
