Thanks for responding to my question on the grounders Blu..... much appriceated!!!!

Hello fellow Umps. I am an ex ball player who used to give the umps hell when I played. Now, retribution from the baseball gods has been swift and vengeful: I never would have guest fans could be so mean! I have been umping high school--varsity and JV--, and Babe Ruth for what is now beginning my second year. I have made plenty of mistakes but have learned a lot--mostly from the vetren umpires who have had to put up with rookie mistakes. My first game behind the dish this year was very good; I was comfortable behind the plate and am far more in control of the game; I have a better grasp on the rules. My fellow ump in the field was stellar and I look forward to working with him throughout the rest of this season and into the summer. One question: A grounder was hit down the first base line fair; the ball did not touch the base but bounced over the corner of the bag but did not go past the bag before landing in foul territory. I called it foul: was I correct? Karl Thanks blue!.. Results from clarifacation: Good: I learned what past the Bag defines when a grounder is hit down the base line past the bag and landing in foul territory! Bad: I made the wrong call and cost a team some runs in the first JV game of the season. I told the coachs why I ruled the way I did and that I was wrong; however, it doesn't help with my frustration of the "Earn while you Learn" stigma. Should I tell the coachs I looked up the rule and obtained qualified interputations, and am sorry for the inexperienced call, or just move on and do the best job I can. P.S.
