  1. I personally like the idea and have tried to get people referred but its hit and miss.... @ Kyle, Any chance i could get you to elaborate on the Junior umpire program? first time ive heard of anything to that effect and personally like the idea And to the last two posts, The positions at all levels are paid (varying on level)
  2. Im sorry if this is posted elsewhere and if so please feel free to just redirect it but the question i pose is this: how do you increase numbers? and in that sense get more people involved? seems pretty broad and tbh i wanted it that way because as we all know theres more than one way to skin a cat.....But in a summer league setting (since thats pretty much all we play where im at, so no spring league) how do you try to provoke more involvement from parents etc to get into officiating? The last couple of years i have been asked/volunteered to assign officials to games, and....i have only a few people (most of my home towns officials are getting older) I feel like im putting way to much on only a few peoples shoulders mainly my own and about three other guys. We have a few Legion players that help out but to be honest at times i worry about quality... So once again any advice on getting more involved? Ken P.S. sorry if its a rant and i can clearify if needed
  3. Afternoon all, Just a little about myself, im currently 20 (for a whopping total of 7 more days), and essentially grew up in the umpires rooms of my local league, my father (whom i still blame for the insanity) has been an official for going on almost 30 years, and got me started some 7 years ago at the age of 14. Since then He and i rarely if ever miss the local fathers day softball tournament which we have officiated together since my start. With that in mind a little more about what I do, Currently i am a Montana Officials Association member Umpiring Softball in the Bozeman, Montana area, During my summers away from Montana State in Bozeman i return home to Organize officials for the Richland County Baseball commission (i also hold a seat on the commission as the "voice for officials"). Hmmm I feel like ive been ranting... if you have any other questions feel free to ask i look forward to interacting with everyone and getting to know you better. Ken
