Last night had a double header. 1st game I'm at the plate. Starting with the first pitch - a called ball - the pitcher shook his head and was muttering. Nothing that you could really understand - but he was unhappy. Following the 2nd inning the coach comes out and asks about my strike - his pitcher didn't like it. He "ususlly" throws more strikes.

I politely told the coach we were not going to be having that particular conversation - during or between innings. He knew as well as I do what the zone is. After 3rd inning he is out again and stands beside me and very quietly says: "my pitcher says your strike zone is tighter than his girlfriend - what do you have to say about that?"

Being kind of a smart alec - I couldn't resist. Just as quietly - so only he could hear I said: "sounds like he needs a new girlfriend!" :givebeer:

I thought he was going to pee his pants - never said another word but smiled the remainder of the game.

Let me guess - now you're going to tell us this is 14 and under ball, right?

listening to all the jabbs about location had my mind wandering. I'm in PA so we have the best of all seasons (tan/rust, whatever). However, for the amount of deer hunting that we do (they close school for the first day of buck season), I'm sitting here trying to picture a mask with an antler rack mounted on it.

Nate:

Don't take this as a knock but that is a by-product of your age. As you age, gain experience and your rep is way better tan it is now, you will learn to appreciate a good barb said quietly. You will also say things you would never say now and be able to get away with it. I realize you have a built a sold rep in your area so I'm not trying to belittle that at all. I simply mean your point of view will mature.

I realize that. I think this way because there are too many high school umpires in my area that try to be best friends with the coaches, and that's just not acceptable to me. But I do hate this whole age crap that I go through on the field. I'm no different than anyone else on my board, except I weight about 150 lbs lighter than half of them.
