Luggage issues or the clubbie put his pants in with the bleach load. I was watching at a bar with the sound off so I didn't hear the commentary.

It affected the whole(?) crew.

All 3 BUs were wearing team pants (as in, not umpire pants; and they weren't all the same!* ), and unnumbered, generically-sized convertibles / pullovers, with the Armed Forces Weekend hats (which are totally dope, IMNSHO). I don't think those were their typical base shoes, either, cuz both #25 and #85's cases, I think those were either personal "workout" shoes, or by sending someone to Scheels on the quick to get**. I've never seen #25 wear Hokas before.

I'm surprised that #8 had his plate gear... that, or I'm doubly impressed that someone managed to find plate pants to cover the gear that is likely stashed in the umpire room at each ballpark. I've been reviewing the footage from the game, and unless my eyes deceive me, I think #8 is using a black-framed Icon Ti... with Davis Core&Socks pads??!! Could it be true???

* - I'm sure there's more than one current-NCAA / ex-MiLB umpire who is loading up the CrapWagon regarding:
- how having mismatching pants, even in these circumstances, is a "bad look", and a demerit
- how having too much white on the base shoes is a demerit
- how not arriving at the ballpark, with all your gear, in a timely manner to prevent even these sort of occurrences is a demerit

Well, the BUs are back to wearing the supplied(?) / complementary(?) Mizuno base shoes. 🙄

Gotta show the shine, gotta show the brand.

I can tell you, without ever even trying them on, those Hokas are tremendously more comfortable than those Mizunos.

I have it on good authority that they purchased these. MLB gives the umpires $$$ per year (a few hundred) to use towards Mizuno products and they can purchase what they prefer.  It sure feels like MLB is pretty frugal with their expenses and is not handing much out for free.

Apparently, the delivery service MLBU uses did not show up in time for the game, according to Dan Hayes. The truck did arrive later, and they changed into MLB-approved pants between innings. (Just in time for Baker to eject the Twins manager.) And this isn't the first time this has happened (see here).

I'm about 99% sure the plate pants he was wearing were not smitties, based on the texture- maybe the old fechheimers? Still better than nothing.Image

FYI, When the outside protector was used by American League umpires, each major league umpire room did have one short and one long umpire protector available.  That saved umpires from having their protectors transported from city to city.

I don't know what pants the base guys are wearing, but I like them much better that the 1970's "Larry Lounge Lizard" slacks we're forced to wear.

Those light gray pants look much more athletic. Also, I 'm a huge fan of Hokas. Very comfortable shoe.

Maybe the union is starting to break.

Hey, this is giving me ammunition (excuse) to reply to a coordinator / assigner / assoc. head's mandate, "You must buy and wear the Major League -style pants!", with... (feigning naivety)...
"Which ones? They've used ~so many different ones~ this season." 😁

I’ll just add that all stadiums, both MLB and MiLB are required to have enough umpire gear and apparel to accommodate the crew (4 in MLB, 2-4 in MiLB).

I live close to an umpire outfit and while in store, got brand new, never worn, plate shoes for $50. When asked why so cheap they said when mlb switched brands, stadiums had to get rid of their “on hand” stuff and get new ones of proper company .

so my right place at right time story is how I know about the apparel and gear being there for them. However, nothing about it says it must be newest up to date stuff.

This 👆🏼 tells me all I need to know that “The System” is broken.

Haha, that’s rich. “Proper”. ~Proper~. Ha.

Are those pants supposed to go with the white plate shoes from Japan?

You're just asking, right?-with no hidden negative connotations?

Because.....if somebody gives me the ok to rock the White SSK Plate Shoes.... I will be the first in the USofA to show up with them.... I wish I was joking.

Why are you pausing for permission? Who's gonna stop you?

Plate Guy decides the attire, doesn't he?

Here's my conundrum tho..... As an avid suit wearer, and semi-fashion police....I can't wear white shoes, unless I wear a white belt, (white accessories to accent the colors). And a white belt is no good. So, I can't just rock the white shoes in good conscience.
