dumbdumb Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 guess the physics say throw home rather than 1st, rather than by runner distance to the base. of course the throw has to be on line to start with. or how many times do pitchers 'practice or real' throw to 1st base in their careers. how many times to home. oh well, let's see them blame the umpires. and wow. 3 fielding errors in the game total. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/phillies-vs-dodgers/2025/10/09/813042/final/video

SeeingEyeDog Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Yeah, I mean...totally the thing to do there is if you don't get the strike on the inside corner? Yeahhhhh...go ahead and throw the NEXT PITCH well outside the zone and walk the batter. That's ALSO the umpire's fault. The baseball world is tired of hearing about "how elite" MLB players are...how they can make plays no one else can, how they can MAKE PITCHES in BIG MOMENTS that others can't...no...let's not have any more of that. But, the verbal assaults on umpires MUST continue...that's what THEY are there for, of course... ~Dawg
The Man in Blue Posted October 11 Report Posted October 11 Don't forget the umpires also were the cause of the two balls before that . . . and every pitch that put runners on . . . and . . .
dumbdumb Posted October 11 Author Report Posted October 11 Tiger fans not happy with HBP in bottom of 12th. and Seattle fans not happy with 3-0 pitch called strike instead of ball 4 in bottom of 12th. controversy in games involving 2 of the best, 1 game LA, with Wegner and now 1 Seattle with Porter. doesn't matter if you are a veteran or new guy on the block when those controversial moments/plays/situations happen. no one is immune. https://www.mlb.com/video/victor-robles-hit-by-pitch-after-review?t=replay-review

We all have our triggers...I guess being self-aware of one's triggers is how we reduce it's triggering effect? (Or so I'm told...) My biggest trigger is that old skool bs where when a call is "missed" and the coach will do that "That one's on you!" or "That's two!" referring to the runs they feel were my "fault". Head coach gets an immediate warning on that from me...assistants on down and I'm dumping them... ~Dawg
StatsUmp Posted October 12 Report Posted October 12 18 hours ago, umpstu said: Thought Porter was nails I watched the last 2 1/2 innings when I found the game by chance on TV. I didn't realize Porter was mic'd up or loud enough for microphones to pick up his saying, "No," on balls. I'm not sure if broadcasts are phasing it out (I don't catch many sports events on TV these days), but Fox didn't have a strike zone box on the screen. For what little I saw, I thought Porter did a good job, and the scorecard confirms my initial impression. Great last couple of innings some of the fine defensive plays by both teams. 1
The Man in Blue Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 Dumb question . . . Why say "No"? Why not say "Ball!"
