GiantEngineer Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 12 U Travel R1 only Kid crosses plate on strike 3 swing. Catcher has to hesitate/throw over/around to 2nd. So I get R1 out too. I was wondering if there is ever a situation where you wouldn't get the 2nd out on interference on 3rd strike with another runner stealing?
Richvee Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 FED....and FED only has a stipulation that, if the umpire believes F2 had no chance at throwing out the runner, the umpire can return the runner to their TOP base, and not call them out. In real life....I think the only way an umpire (who actually knows this rule) would send the runner back and not get an out, is, if the runner was literally on the next base when the catcher received the pitch. 6
GiantEngineer Posted June 5 Author Report Posted June 5 Thanks, I was wracking my brain on way home from game and I only came up with same as you.
maven Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 Agree with Rich. If F2 has a chance to retire the runner, then it's INT and the runner is out for the batter's interference. If F2 has no chance to retire the runner, then he hasn't been hindered and there's no INT. In no situation is it possible (despite FED's language) to have both INT and no play. 4
