Other coded language:

"We just want to make sure the calls are right" really equals "We just want them to go our way."

"Can you check with your partner?" really equals "I just don't like that."

Walking off the field Friday night (and of course we have to go through the dugouts), a parent says to us, "I hope you apologized to them on your way through."  Yeah, buddy, WE THE UMPIRES caused your precious little boys to drop 9 runs in the top of the first inning on countless errors and total lack of awareness for the game.

Unfortunately, way too often it’s not possible.

Yeah, I figured there was a reason (unless @The Man in Blue got that from the winners! 🤣)

I think you misunderstood.  Shouldn't that be "He who controls the language controls the molasses?"

Both work but one is faster

We did.  Not for that reason though.  It is one of those "hub" complexes, so it doesn't matter which dugout you exit, you are walking past everybody to get to "tournament central."

I have been taught that also, but I have to say I think it can be an equally damning poor look.

The only time I make a point to adhere to it is when the losing team gives us a reason to do it.  Otherwise, I'm going out the same dugout I came in, and that is the shortest path from field to exit.  Time your exit so it is during the handshake or after they have cleared the dugout.

FTR, this is also why you – and/or your 🤬 partner – should never “gladhand” and participate in a handshake line.

GTFOTF.

If there’s a staffer for the TD, or a Field Coordinator, at a table behind the backstop, or your UIC / Site Supervisor is nearby – head to them.

another 'impactful missed call' bunch of crock from umpscorecards and this time on just 2 misses last night courtesy of reddit. once again in these cases you just show the misses without any 'impactful missed call' nonsense/disingenuous comments.
