I recently attended out association's clinic and this play was shared with me.  It was a very split opinion in the room who had FPSR on this sequence and those who had "That's nothing".  Points discussed were: (1) R1 sliding through and past the base, (2) R1 appears to use a half leaning slide ending up facing 1st base, (3) R1 uses a pop-up slide extending through the base as a retired runner.

I am seeking opinions in this without sharing what the final call on the field was after the crew consultation.  Apologies for the video quality.

The goal is to find some consistency on how to call this type of play.

Tough to tell from the video if he slid directly into the base and extended through, or if he slid to the 3B side.  If directly through I've got nothing, even with the contact.  If to the 3B side, then I've got an 8-4 FPSR violation.

To point 1, They have to slide through the base AND THEN make contact or alter the play for there to be violation.

2) There is nothing illegal about that as long as the leg and butt are on the ground when the contact occurs.

3)This is not a pop-up slide. Remember, a retired runner can still run the bases in a legal manner.

Now where you may have the violation is that the runner isn't in a direct line between the two bases, but I can't tell on this video. Between the two bases means everything has to be within the width of the base. F4 looks to set up on the 3rd base side of the base and gets wiped out. This is where you are going to get your violation.

The above comments encompass what I would say for FED.

Strangely, this is a situation where NCAA is more stringent and I easily have a violation here for not having a leg and buttock on the ground before reaching the base.

Hard to tell if the slide was late and there was contact prior to a leg and buttocks on the ground. That would make it an illegal slide. Also hard to tell if F4 was off to the side of the bag and contacted ( violation) or on top of the bag. (Legal contact. ) Sliding through the bag is only a violation if the contact is beyond the bag.
