Do they even know what they are emulating?

Not sure if he is still lurking here, but I enjoyed @BrentRad’s rant on youth sports on his podcast this week.

Good to hear him back “on the air”!

The “celebrating” has reached ludicrous levels for trivial accomplishments.  Light celebrations were OK,  ridiculous ones were going too far.

I forget what game I was watching...I think it was the Florida team. Kid got a hit, his teammate was thrown out at home trying to score, and he's at 2B, doing a celebration dance. :HS

This is a nose wipe. It was popularized in 2022 and comes from hip hop and gang culture. The wiping of the nose is used as signal to those around them to be alert because something is about to go down.

God I feel old and white typing this out.

Not sure if that makes me feel better or not  vs a throat slash. LOL

These kids don't know that though. They just saw pro athletes doing it a couple of years ago...

Or more inanely and obnoxiously… it was on Fortnite, TikTok, et. al.

I don’t watch many youth-based, televised events (when did spelling become a sport??! I suppose kids today are woefully deficient in spelling, such that they couldn’t spell “theme” if ya gave them the first three letters), but I immediately change the channel as soon as they cut to the overly-enthusiastic “sideline” reporter interviewing kids, whether outside the game or fans / siblings / friends of the kids playing, and the question is – “What’s your favorite TikTok dance?”

I can’t press the button fast enough.

Not as old and white as those of us who needed this explanation because we had no idea 🤷‍♂️

since the last two letters would be "me", I'll play "boomer" (as comically calls me) and say "Oh yes they would since it's all about them"

Saw a kid from Florida do the Soto shuffle today. Gross. Then he launched a HR, so at least he backed it up.

Thats the same kid who was dancing on second base after his hit when his teammate got thrown out at home. 😁

One of the kids in the state tournament here had aaaalllll the gear (big ol' Oakleys, bandana, elbow guard, and ice cream cone sliding mit) and did the Soto shuffle. He didn't get an XBH the entire tournament.

That said, the kid played pretty solid D.

And...to his credit, He rounded the bases with no antics. (he did crush that ball)
