SeeingEyeDog
So, I went to grab my unwritten rules of baseball off my shelf and inexplicably...they weren't there, what with them being unwritten and all. I understand we don't play American baseball in our former oppressor's homeland everyday but, how is this any different from "admiring a HR"? Which incidentally...he also did. My slide rule cannot compute all of this advanced calculus...what do you have, brothers? ~Dawg
The Man in Blue
I'm sure a pitcher or two would get all butt-hurt over it. I'm sure Bryce Harper's reputation doesn't help him. However: context, context, context. It wasn't to show up the pitcher, it was a nod to soccer -- er, football fans. By the title, I was expecting a knee slide across the plate (then, maybe?). This was to the crowd, in front of his dugout . . . I'm going with no.
dumbdumb
it is the old, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. see what happens back in the states tues. weds. it doesnt have to be immediate. heck, with lasorda drilling that aging player that did not sign an autograph for him at 12 years old, the first time he faced him in mlb, who knows when/where the code starts. and stops. when do you stop stealing. what score, what inning, on a pitcher that has a 1.12 era. what if one coach believes the 5th inning and the opposing coach believes the 6th inning for the same offense. what you gonna do when they dump on you. Never heard that story but if one of the rules is being an a**hat gets you drilled there would have been balls flying into the Dodgers dugout at Tommy every game (and no, I'm not a Giants fan)

Of course—I'd eject Bryce Harper for stepping on the field (and it would be belated at that). But I'm not an MLB umpire, and they're not allowed to eject on general principles. In amateur games, this is certainly an unsporting act worthy of attention (warning or ejection, depending on the level, the heat of the game, ABS, etc.).

That’s what I expected from the headlines (first saw on Ninja). I can see that being controversial. This, in front of the dugout? Anyone taking offenses? You always know where the advanced, critical, next-level thought is going to go, Maven... Given Harper's high-profile and inexplicable popularity, I have this being repeated and on YouTube in youth baseball inside a month... ~Dawg

It was a nod to where he was playing, a 'tip of the cap' so to speak to everyone there (soccer fans). Nothing more, nothing less.

Hey, our “former oppressor” has been our best and greatest ally since 1865, and one of the things they find annoying about us – applicable to this “incident” – is that we inflate, aggrandize, and make big issues out of trifles. What do I have? To borrow a British phrase – sod all.
