SeeingEyeDog Posted May 16, 2024 Report Posted May 16, 2024 So, we're nearing the end of the scholastic season in my market and I have been seeing a lot of unusual mechanics by my U1 partners this spring on R1 steal plays into 2B. We got a bumper crop of rookies so, I'm not sure how much of this is guys still figuring it out and how much of this could be some new mechanics I may not be aware of... You're starting this play in B, obviously...assuming you have a good throw from F2 and you are not at risk of being hit by a thrown baseball, where are you trying to get to to take this play and what route are you taking to get there, please? Any other minutia is of course appreciated... ~Dawg 1 Quote

noumpere Posted May 17, 2024 Report Posted May 17, 2024 You get as close to the ball as you can without being hit (not quite literally). If it's a true throw, that will set you up for a tag at the base. If the throw is off to the RF side, that will take you back and you'll be set for the swipe tag. Quote
DevildogUmp Posted May 17, 2024 Report Posted May 17, 2024 As the catcher pops and starts his throw, I am taking a large drop step with my right foot, as the ball clears the mound I am letting it turn me (chest to ball) into a cross-over step, and probably getting 2 steps closer to the bag before I am set for the tag attempt. 2 Quote

Try some more drop steps as the throw comes. Quote
