All 4 umpires have worked at least a regionals and 2 a cws they know exactly what they are doing and how rules are to be enforced and coach says they are wrong. Went to review for both situations involved on field. Rewrite rules if they and instant replay are wrong. Go complain to sec about rules and enforcement and get them changed then. Don't blame umpires for poor rules and interpretations.

IMO, should have been a lot more than 11 ejections.  There were a whole lot of people on the field who had no business being on the field.

If you are one of those people in the "but nobody did anything" camp . . . there is a reason this rule is in place.  If the only people there are the involved players and the umpire(s), it can be easier to contain.  If it turns into this

the odds of something escalating just went up exponentially.  Sorry, no, little Freddy Fourth Stringer did not come off the bench to prevent something that wasn't happening.  He came out as a show of force.  Should have been a whole lot more than 11 ejections.

(Tangent: when will NCAA require player numbers on jackets?)

As for the actual play . . . I don't like the catcher's reaction, but I get it.  From the aerial shot, it looks like a clean slide.  From the ground level shot, it is evident the runner was aiming for his knee and launched to do it.

I think this was the link you were trying to post: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10115893-video-11-players-ejected-from-georgia-vs-mississippi-state-after-collision-at-plate

I would agree that since the NCAA rule says "leaving the dugout during an altercation or fight" is an ejection, it seems like more than 11 would need to go here.  Wonder what their threshold was for deciding who got tossed and who didn't?

I guess to me the slide doesn't seem malicious, the catcher is moving into foul ground and the runner slides while trying to reach with his arm for the plate.  You could probably argue that there's some 'launching' on the slide but I guess I'm seeing that as an attempt to reach the plate (again the catcher is moving into foul ground giving the runner zero room) and this is all happening in a split second.  One question in looking at the collision rule which is fairly moot here since the runner was out, does "blocking the pathway" include with and without the ball?  In the case of a headfirst slide, a runner shall be deemed to have slid appropriately if their body should hit the ground before contact with the catcher. If a catcher blocks the pathway of the runner, the umpire shall not find that the runner initiated an avoidable collision
in violation of the Collision Rule.

The NCAA rule also says that anyone leaving their position to potentially (emphasis added) participate in a verbal or physical confrontation shall be ejected. Seems like more than 11 did

Only 5 guys were suspended for today's game, so they apparently 'rescinded' 6 of the ejections. https://uga.rivals.com/news/suspensions-handed-down-for-saturday-s-home-plate-incident

They are allowed to stagger the ejections so that the team isn't crippled more than necessary.  So maybe the first 5 is the first game and the second 6 for the second game?  (I didn't hit the link to read it, but, I think that maybe this is the case?)

Doesn't appear that's the case.  Article says 2 of the 3 guys suspended for Georgia are catchers so one served it yesterday and the other will serve it next game.  Only 2 guys suspended for MSST.

Just my opinion but...maybe if we as a society enforce suspensions as they are "earned" which in this case would possibly mean a forfeit, then perhaps we don't have to issue and I quote..."11 ejections" in the future. Maybe it's a deterrent for future acts maybe it isn't but, consider what message is being sent by staggering the suspensions. The NCAA's coffers must be low if they can't afford to forfeit one baseball game...

Yup!  As they say, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime!

My school's softball coach and a player got thrown out of a game where the umpire was intoxicated and acting inappropriately with the players.  They still had to serve the extra one game suspension.

When you tell people there are consequences, but then show them the consequences aren't real, don't act surprised at the results.

The NCAA isn't making any money off of a regular season game...
