MadMax Posted February 7, 2024 Report Posted February 7, 2024 Pure, unmodified, unbridled OBR. The only thing we don’t have is the pitch clock (physically impossible to implement at venue) – R1-R2, outs don’t matter. F1 is engaged, and is in a stance to take signs. He doesn’t get on the same page as his F2. He steps off the back (legally), and requests Time. Time is granted by PU and U3 simultaneously. F2 trots out to discuss with F1. That’s Mound Visits = 1. The question is… is that a disengagement as well?? When we resumed play, F1 stepped off the back and feinted to 2B. My U1 came up with “2” indicating number of disengagements. Which is it? Quote
ArchAngel72 Posted February 7, 2024 Report Posted February 7, 2024 I'm scared is this a test? 😨 Quote
wolfe_man Posted February 7, 2024 Report Posted February 7, 2024 Full disclosure: I don't work OBR. With that said, my understanding of the rule is two disengagements per plate appearance with runners on base (resets if they advance a base). It is further my understanding that a mound visit is NOT a disengagement. A disengagement is a pickoff attempt, fake pickoff attempt or stepping off the rubber for any other reason - but a MV is NOT a disengagement. So, that's, MV = 1 and Disengagements = 1, if you're keeping score at home. 2 Quote
BLWizzRanger Posted February 8, 2024 Report Posted February 8, 2024 I'm game for this quiz...As for most of my umpire learning where there are multiple steps in a scenario you have to start with the first and proceed to the next. What happened first? Pitcher stepped off? I got a reset. Catcher called time? I got a mound visit. The pitcher can always holler at the ump, requesting time while engaged. Its a hard line with no nuance though. Might have a hard time making friends after that.Sent from my SM-F721U1 using Tapatalk Quote
MadMax Posted February 13, 2024 Author Report Posted February 13, 2024 Alright, guys, I got interpretation clarification… - Disengagement for the purposes of requesting Time for changing the ball, for initiating a (charged) conference (AKA mound visit), or if directed to by an umpire is not a counted “play attempt” or disengagement (or “reset”). - A throw made from the dirt circle (of the mound) is a counted play attempt, regardless of where the batter is (ie. if a new batter isn’t in the box yet to start his at-bat; an at-bat starts at the moment of the completion of the previous at-bat). 3 Quote
