mac266 Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 Just as we're ramping up and getting ready for Spring baseball, I tore my bicep tendon completely off. It's hanging out in a ball inside my bicep as I await surgery, and the recovery process is supposed to be rather lengthy. So I have to sit out the entire baseball season. I was on my way up, too. I've reached out to the volleyball folks to find out if it's not too late for me to get trained and certified for the Spring boys' season. I hope that next year I'll be back on the diamond, but I could officiate girls' volleyball in the Fall and not interfere with it. 4 Quote
Velho Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 I know we need to sell the whackers but geez. Was it a dead tie? 😀 Feel for you brother. Good on you for your mental attitude of 'next play'. Quote
ArchAngel72 Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 Dang Mac prayers for a speedy but PROPER recovery... do what they tell you but do not push it so you hurt yourself and cause a more lengthy recovery. Quote
BLWizzRanger Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Well, couldn't you use the other arm? They say to call them both ways... Sorry to hear about this. Here's to a speedy recovery. Quote
Kevin_K Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Don't be hatin on volleyball! You need both arms to properly signal and, like baseball, it isn't as easy to officiate as it appears to the casual observer. Here's to successful treatments and recovery! Quote

I think the TOUGHEST thing I had to learn for volleyball was the ability to be ambidextrous with calls. Seriously. Quote

boyinr Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 Thoughts and prayers are with you. I tore the proximal bicep two years ago. They didn't fix it. It doesn't seem to bother except the "shoulder" pain is all gone. Quote

But getting hit with a hard ball is not a concern. That's why I'm not umpiring this year. Quote
mac266 Posted April 5 Author Report Posted April 5 UPDATE: I'm not going to do volleyball because I made a MAJOR milestone in my military career: I'm taking command of a brigade in May. As to baseball, I've been cleared to umpire bases only for the remainder of the season. I won't get behind the dish at all until next year. But, given the tidbit above (which, by the way, makes me eligible to compete for a star), I'm probably going to withdraw as a "prospect" for the NCAA. I want to get there, but I don't think it's in the cards for the next few years. I'll keep doing JuCo. 3 Quote
