Good, long lasting Pen

Hey all,..

Last discussion about pens or pencils was from 2016.  Just wondering what everyone is using?  My retractable Sharpie extra fine markers (red) finally wore out and looking for a replacement.  Was thinking Sharpie's new S-Gel pen might be nice? (On edit, just saw that the Sharpie S-Gel is only recommended at room temperature.  It doesn't write in the cold, and leaks when it gets too warm.  That won't work)

What's working for you?

I personally write only in MontBlanc…

Ok, all seriousness, the PILOT G2 07 pens are the best pens ever. Always write with them, writes in all weather conditions (including the cold). I like red ink the best, so I can see it better from the coaches writing. It dries fast and write extremely well! A lot of MLB guys use it too. Do not waste your time, send a extra 4 bucks to buy these pen, it does not run out fast! They write very similar to your old sharpie fine markers too!

I usually use the G2.  Tried Sharpies this year (since bought a bunch for school).  They were OK, but I like the retractable aspect of the G2.  Didn't know about the minis, though!

Always red, with a back up (I try for green).  We had one coach around here who liked to write his line up in red just to be an arse.

^^^ These.  I like the retractable pen.  Fussing with a cap is a pain. Been using these for about 4 seasons.  Lost one last season, down to two.  If I get to one I’ll reorder these again for sure.  $4.49 for 3.  Can’t beat that.

I used to work for them 20 years ago. So this got a good chuckle out of me. But here I go about to get my "writing instrument" (IYKYK) geek on....

Since I am off the field now, I'm not totally sure if this would work. But at work, SWMBO bought me a Ridgd bullet pen. Heavy duty aluminum and very smooth action on the lever. A but pricey at around $60 for the matte black (which I have) and a really slick looking gunmetal color. The carbon fiber (I have the wallet) is $90.

My only issue with the pen is the refill it came with. It is pressurize so you can write in any direction. But it does have a tendency to leak. But generic refills are super inexpensive and come in both ball point and gel rollerball (which is what I use at work).

I prefer purple. I have never seen a lineup card filled out in purple.

I have, Niagara University PURPLE Eagles.  Took me by surprise at the plate meeting. Still have it too, not because of the purple ink.

I use the G2, red ink switching into a black or navy outside.  Just like that look better over the red pen.  It will smudge in the rain though.

I use Write in the Rain...because weather isn't great here during HS season.

I too am... or was... a champion of the Pilot G2’s. I actually would prefer getting them in oddball colors (teal, orange, sky blue)... or pink (memorial to JS; also – “Hey Coach, can I have my pen back?”)  because of how well and vibrant they write...

Until...

I bought a batch of Write-in-the-Rain notebooks for the umpires in my League, since we have to record defensive & offensive conferences, coach challenges, and my boss needs details on any warnings or ejections given. I thought I was being all slick and genius... until the first wet game I encountered... oh sure, the paper held up great! But the writing... just melted and dissolved away!

Stupid me, gel pens are water-based! 🤨😰

This pen was created by Uni Ball with the help of Frank Abagnale Jr. (the real guy from the movie Catch Me If You Can) for fraud prevention. The ink is quick drying and I’ve never experienced any issues using them in wet conditions.

I also use the Sharpie S-Gel pens.

Always in red ink.

Should we trust a pen that Frank Abagnale, Jr. was involved with in developing?

You're kidding right?

No, the guy was wanted in 27 countries. He claims to have cashed 17,000 checks totaling in excess of $2M (That was a lot of money in 1965.) He literally was a professional liar, cheat, thief and international felon. He did his crimes and he's done his time...ok. His name on any product doesn't mean dinky-do and I personally am going to make other choices. You do you, free country, varied mileage, nuttin' but peace and love, etc....

I'm a fan of the Sarasa gel pens. I've never had a problem in the wet. High school coaches, being teachers, will bring out their lineups in black, blue, green, red, purple, or whatever.

Oh yeah, well I have BROWN

Exactly my thoughts! Lol

I remember when the film came out, some pen company (I think it was Cross or Parker) came out with a collector's edition pen inspired by Frank Abignail Jr and the movie. I have never wanted a pen more than that time. But I didn't have the (reasonable for the industry) money to get me one.
