Last weekend I discovered that my long lasting Nike leather running shoes started separating on my right shoe.  Now, of course I could probably have them fixed, but it started me thinking I should probably get a new base shoe (had the Nike's for 10+ years) ....

I just stumbled across this on the Mizuno USA page .... the latest addition of the "Ambition" trainer ....  nice!

Kinda like how that looks but the logo looks "off" to me.  Kinda like on the plate shoes.  It really stands out in an awkward way.

I think it's just the placement, but ... your pantlegs will be covering that, or at least obscuring that view most of the time (plate or base)

Well, I asked @JimKirk if UA was going to get the new Mizuno Ambition 3 shoes and sure enough, they had just come in!  Sooooo, ...I ordered a pair along with the UA Yard Turfs that I had my eye on.  I'll see them Friday, looking forward to that!  We shall see!

Thanks Jim!

A review of the Ambition 3s is needed, you know. 😎

Ok folks ...and as requested for @834k3r ...  I got them yesterday afternoon.   Like I said I got 2.  I ordered the Under Armour Yard Turf, and the Mizuno Ambition 3 because I did have my eye on the UA shoe as well.

The UA is nice, good fit, however ... compared to the Mizuno, it was a little too flashy.  Don't get me wrong, I think if I didn't have a choice between the two, I'd certainly take the UA Yard Turfs, they're nice.  But again, compared to the Mizuno, there's a lot more going on w/ the shoe.  Anyone who knows me knows that I like white on my shoes, and the UA doesn't disappoint there.  It also has 3 total logos, black AND white laces (which I know you can change, but) ... silvery white accents within the mesh patches of the shoe, and a neon-like pinkish red writing.  Cool shoe, but all together, there's a lot going on, and I just prefer the simplicity (black, white, gray) of the Mizuno.   Oh, by the way, order 1/2 size up on the UA shoe.

Now to more Mizuno details:

I have a standard width foot, and these fit perfectly for me.  They seemed stable, decent arch support, and I liked the feel of the support from the thicker padded tongue under the laces.  The upper is a synthetic leather like feeling material in a matte (but not TOO matte) finish that has a slightly marbled look to it. Then under that, there's a sweeping section (ridges) above the sole area in a solid black. There's also a little 'run bird' logo along the heal as well.

The sole has both gray and white combined which is a pretty nice look, different/interesting, but I like it.  And, the traction pattern is very nice.  I can see these giving anyone plenty of traction on any surface.  Just from wearing them around the house, I got a good feel for them.  What I should do is throw on my base pants to see how they look too, and then add that photo as well.  Maybe ... soon ;)   Anyhow, that's all for now.........

Never apologize. All-black shoes are so… old.

Matte finish? Sign me up! Polished shoes are worthless, and polishing shoes is unnecessary. No one cares. Keep ‘em clean, sure; but, polish them? Pffft. Doesn’t make you a better umpire.

And synthetic, you say? Outstanding. That means they clean really easily. These may become my Big Game Night shoes.

Thanks for the scout report, @Thunderheads !!

I just wish someone besides NB would come out with WIDE widths so I had mor options.  NB is the only one I can find that comes in 4E width.

Skechers makes 4E. They’re actually pretty appealing as Base shoes.

Ya just gotta get past the stigma of “what is a base shoe expected to be” = a shortlist of brands / what MLB guys use / what college umpires brag about.

Doesn't help for the plate.

What suggestions do folks have for wet weather base shoes for turf?  (Goretex?) The rain has started here in Seattle, and it probably won't stop until April. And the show must go on...

turf, as you know, can be an ice-rink when it's wet.  I'd suggest something w/ some 'tooth' to the sole.  If you look at the photos, these Mizunos have what I'd consider a nice tread for wet turf.

Perhaps some of the athletic shoe-looking golf shoes with the plastic cleats? (I've had my eye on these for a bit:  https://www.adidas.com/us/tech-response-3.0-golf-shoes/GV6890.html)

Get some leather golf shoes. Most good ones have at least a 1 year waterproof warranty. The Nike TW or Nike Air Zoom Victory are my go to wet weather base shoe.

Easy. Find some golf shoes.  I have a pair of Adidas spike less shoes that I will use on those days.  I hate cold wet feet.
