HT has a pro prospect who will not be playing college. With the score 6-1 VT in the bottom of the 2nd, prospect comes to the plate and is intentionally walked. HT manager comes out of the dugout and waves over the VT manager as the batter is trotting to 1B. First off, have you ever had this situation? A coach coming out on another coach? What is your move here? HT coach (paraphrasing) says to VT coach, "Really? You're doing this? You have a 5 run lead and you're doing this? Kid's last HS at-bat and you are walking him?!?!?" VT coach, "Coach, we have a game plan. We're trying to win a baseball game...nothing personal." The conversation ends and the game resumes... Ironically, bottom 7th, game is tied, prospect at the plate again...and again is walked to load the bases with 2 outs. I can picture 2 steps out, he shouts across (which may not be too big a deal), and it’s a mild back-and-forth.Or, like I had 3 weeks ago with 2 programs about 4 miles apart who HATE each other. I mean they wouldn’t spit on the other if they were on fire. VT was up like 9-0 and got heated about a FPSR no-call. The HT who was getting trounced comes out to me for a lineup sub, and barks across the field, but really saying to me, “what’s he whining about…always has to complain on something!!!”I don’t know if the VT heard HTHC, but as he’s subbing in, I told him, “talk to me, “Chris,” you’re not yelling across the field. Not going there.”So, I guess it depends to what degree Fahrenheit this thing starts to heat up to. Nothing good ever comes from dugouts "talking" to one another. Don't wait to find out you are a frog in a boiling pot. My nightmare game started with coaches jawing back and forth. Senor Azul Posted May 29 Report Share Posted May 29 Why can't we use current FED rule 3-3-1 in this scenario? 3-3-1a tells us a coach shall not leave the dugout during a live ball for an unauthorized purpose. 3-3-1f-2, 3, 4 all are applicable. He made a gesture like the old kung fu movies of holding one hand out, palm up and curling his fingers to the VT coach. The "Come On" gesture, if you will... The VT coach also came out just past his on-deck circle and stopped short of the dirt circle. They were speaking loudly but more to be heard than out of anger. @Senor Azul makes a very good point. His citation is correct. As described to me and passed to all of you, I have HT coach leaving the dugout for an unauthorized purpose. I have intimidation tactics, remarks unfavorably upon another person, taunting, use of language to intimidate, AND behavior in any manner not consistent with fair play. By rule, any of those warrant a warning and depending on the umpire's judgement of those acts or words, could be a dugout restriction or immediate ejection. Warn immediately and get them back in - any more arguing or further out, we would be ejecting.It’s one thing if a coach takes 2 steps out of the dugout and whines “come on, let him hit.” This was clearly not that. HT Manager responds: You're an a-hole! VT Manager fires back: FU! Then the punches/wrestling started!!! Two manager ejections at the plate meeting, never had that before. I issued sportsmanship warnings to both managers. The PA announcer took the opportunity to relay the message. (I didn't need that....) But that nipped it in the bud.
